
Egyptian Modern Art Museum (Cairo)

The Museum of Egyptian Modern Art is located inside the campus of the Egyptian Opera House in the land of the island in the Zamalek district. The museum is different from other Egyptian museums, as it combines an unlimited number of intellectual trends. You find a board in it that represents the real, abstract, surreal , Cubist , and Daddy school , and this is evident from the diversity of the artists’ exhibits , and you may even see one more artist from a different school work during its age stages. The idea of the museum was The need for the Egyptian Modern Art museum appeared at the beginning of the last century, as Egypt was living a great artistic renaissance in which the reason was the establishment of the School of Fine Arts in Cairo, whose name later became the Faculty of Fine Arts and the object currently built on the island of Zamalek – Cairo in 1908 AD and four years later in In 1911 she graduated from school with her first batch. This batch saw many names who formed the first pillars of modern Egyptian art, including the example Mahmoud Mukhtar, as well as the artist Ragheb Ayadu Kamal Amin, Youssef Kamel and Ahmed SabryAnd many brilliant names. As a result, the artistic halls and galleries spread and plastic art flourished in general, and this era and its aftermath witnessed huge artistic momentum, and then over a whole century, it was necessary to have a museum in order to witness this period.
The history of the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art
In 1927 , Muhammad Mahmoud Khalil proposed the establishment of a museum that includes these works of art, which were treasures from his point of view. Although he is not an artist, he is considered one of the most influential figures in Egyptian modern art
The museum’s first headquarters was a small room inside the Fine Arts Lovers Society in Saray Tigran, Ibrahim Pasha Street, Al-Gomhoria Street, which is located in the center of the capital. After that he boarded the museum and moved to the wax museum now
In 1936 the museum moved to Al-Bustan Street in Tahrir Square, and after that it was moved to the most expensive Count Zogheb Palace – Kasr El Nil Street – Tahrir Square
In 1966, as a result of the demolition of the former museum building, its holdings moved to a villa by Ismail Pasha Abul Fotouh – Artistic Square – Dokki neighborhood – Giza
In 1983 , the Saray 3 of the Opera House (which was then the exhibition ground in Cairo before moving to the suburb of Nasr City ) was designated as the headquarters of the new museum and it is noted that the Saray was established in the Islamic style .
It was in the previous periods and due to the frequent movement of the museum, many museums are awaiting the museum, as a result of neglect, many valuable works were lost, some of them were damaged in addition to the theft of others, and after restoration and research in the stores, the museum was opened in 1991 in 2005 , the museum was reopened after a group of Maintenance and renovations
